When this 78-year-old grandma from Wood River in Illinois joined Club Fitness with her granddaughter she couldn’t even climb the stairs unless she held onto the railing.
Now, she can deadlift 225 pounds:
It took Shirley Webb only six months of training to get to this stage and now she goes to the gym twice a week to maintain her strength.
Her trainer, John Wright, told ESPN: “She’s gotten to the point where everybody greets her and is just absolutely impressed. She inspires everybody that goes to the gym and it’s fun to see that.”
Webb has even broken deadlifting records in both Illinois and Missouri. In June, she hopes to set an American record for deadlifting for her age group (which should be a piece of cake given that no one has done it before).
But don’t think for a minute that this grandma is considering retirement.
“I have no intention of stopping right now. When I go to the gym and work out, when I leave, I feel so much better than I did when I went in, and I just feel so good. I feel tremendous.”
